Electrical Safety Sim: Low Voltage

Simulation-based training allows trainees to learn and practice the principles of NFPA- and OSHA-based electrical safety – safely.

Easy-to-use simulations present and reinforce regulation-based electrical safety practices and provide a virtual environment to help trainees prepare for and interact with the variables that contribute to shock and arc flash hazards. Etcetera’s Electrical Safety Sim: Low Voltage gives trainees a place to practice electrical safety through a combination of event simulations and interactive lessons. Trainees make choices and experience consequences in real-time, and experiment with options to “relive” the experience with different choices. Structured lessons provide instruction on safety practices and engage trainees with 3D interaction to reinforce lesson content and provide immediate feedback.

NFPA and OSHA-based lessons for qualified workers include:

ESS Thumbnail
  1. Shock Incidents (Simulator)
  2. Arc Flash Incidents (Simulator)
  3. Introductory Content, including Definition of
    Qualified Person and Job Briefing
  4. Nominal Voltage
  5. Approach Boundaries
  6. Hazard Risk Categories
  7. PPE / Gloves / Tools
  8. Exposed Energized Parts including LO/TO

Task-based scenarios allow trainees to test their electrical safety practices by performing common tasks in virtual environments. Virtual workplace equipment includes main distribution panels, transformers, lower voltage panels, switches and sample manufacturing equipment.

  • Change a breaker in a 208V panel.
  • Change a fuse in an environment where work on
    energized equipment is necessary.
  • Review individual results and learn if safer
    practices could have been used.

Individual and team performance is tracked and stored for management reporting. Trainees receive a certification of completion for passing scores.

Why Simulations and Games for Training?

  • Engage and motivate learners - turn training from passive to active
  • Active learning - learners perform actions and immediately experience their consequences
  • "No-risk" practice in a virtual environment
  • Clear, goal-oriented tasks and personal achievement
  • Trainees practice at their own level and pace without holding back or tying up others
  • Improved retention through play and practice
